Biography

Roman Kalytchak, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

His research interests include Ukrainian regionalism, Ukraine’s foreign policy, the European integration of Ukraine, and the development of area studies, particularly in American and European studies. He has published extensively on these topics in Ukrainian and other languages.

Dr. Kalytchak is a Senior Research Fellow at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and has been involved in seven Jean Monnet projects. His most recent initiative is the Jean Monnet Project ‘Rebuilding the Potential of EU Studies in the Conflict-affected Areas of Ukraine: Addressing Challenges and Creating Solutions’ (2020), which aims to promote the development of European Union studies in Ukraine.

He also introduced the first specialization in American Studies in Ukraine (2011) and established the Center for American Studies (2014), making significant contributions to the development of American studies in Ukraine. His most recent initiative is ‘Striving for Excellence: American Studies in Ukraine.’ In 2020, he was awarded his second Fulbright scholarship to conduct research at the Department of American Studies of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Kalytchak has participated in several international academic projects, received multiple grants, and served as a visiting scholar at various North American and European universities, such as the Central European University, the Free University of Berlin, the George Washington University, the University of Bologna, the University of Toronto, the University of Turin, and the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington, DC, among others.

Dr. Kalytchak serves as a member of the Scientific and Curriculum Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He supervises activities related to higher education in the field of Social Sciences. Previously, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Curriculum Subcommittee on International Relations, Social Communications, and Area Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
